Nintendo already confirmed that the Nintendo Switch will not be backwards compatible for physically discs from Wii U or Nintendo 3DS, which seams pretty logic, but much people have already asked about the digital backwards compatibility of the games we purchased in the Nintendo E-Shop, which until today is neither confirmed or denied. The digital backward compatibility with Wii U and 3DS would bring the Nintendo Switch a strong starting position at his lunch on March 3, 2017, since all the digital games we already have, like for example Super Mario Maker and Mario Kart 8, would be already form part of your collection.
This would only be logical move for Nintendo, because much more people would be immediately convinced to purchase the Nintendo Switch, since they can keep playing their digital Nintendo E-shop collection of Wii U and 3DS games and we can suspect that the Switch is going to have some kind of backwards compatibility, because Nintendo announced already that the Switch will be working with the Nintendo E-Shop, so the big question is, why haven’t they revealed this great news if it where true???
Even if the Nintendo Switch will be their new flagship, the Wii U is still their main console for the moment and if they would reveal the digitally backwards compatibility with the Wii U and 3DS games, this would mean that the physical games would lose a big amount of value and the people also would stop buying them, so let’s be serious, if you put yourself into the situation of a consumer, would you purchase a game for a older console if you knew that you can play it also on the newer one and on the go???
So if this backwards compatibility is true, for which I am almost a 90% sure, that this is going to happen, then we are going to have a extremely great lunch of the Nintendo Switch with a big catalog of games to play from the very beginning but a big devaluation of the previous consoles and physical games, which is exactly why Nintendo has not revealed nothing of this yet, so they can keep selling anything until the very last moment, which could also be a conclusion to why the starter bundle of the Nintendo Switch does not contain any game included.
- Some Wii U and 3DS games will be playable in digital version and not been wasted!
- No need to spend extra money for a game at the moment of the Switch purchase!
- Finally a union of all handheld and home console games into one system.
- Physical Games will be wasted or at least only usable with the previous hardware!
- Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will have a big devaluation!
